It came as a shock to producer Vashu Bhagnani when the lead actor of his film ‘Welcome To Karachi’, Irrfan Khan, refused to show up in London at the last moment. Though the actor had then claimed to have date issues with the movie, it is now being said that Irrfan quit the project because he was not happy with his co-star, Rabia Khan.
Bhagnani, who openly admitted that he is miffed with Irrfan for backing out at the last moment, revealed that the decision was taken by the actor after they decided to bring in Pakistani actress Rabia Khan as the female lead in the movie. According to Bhagnani, Irrfan was really keen on taking actress Nargis Fakhri on board for ‘WTK’, but the deal did not work out and they had to look out for another actress. Bhagnani was impressed by Rabia's audition which happened in London and decided to sign her, but Irrfan wasn't convinced with the decision. Bhagnani mentioned that he had decided to cast Rabia because of her excellent command over Urdu, Hindi, and English.
After Irrfan walked out, Vashu's son Jackky was cast in his role. Directed by Ashish R. Mohan, ‘Welcome To Karachi’ also stars Arshad Warsi in the lead.
