Movie Review: RAAZ REBOOT Has Nothing New To Offer

Film released today and will open with decent numbers but should find difficult to grow over weekend unless reviews turn the tide.

RAAZ REBOOT Has Nothing New To Offer

Pluses:

Emraan Hashmi is decent, Gaurav is good, couple of good songs, outstanding locations

Minuses:

Kriti Kharbanda is bad, Vikram Bhatt continues to disappoint

Critic Rating:

2/5

Business Rating:

2/5

Verdict:

Watch it only for songs and locations

Detailed Analysis:

Vikram has given handful flops in last few years so that makes for a very scary record, scarier than his films. Emraan Hashmi is going through the worst phase of his career with half dozen flops. Bhatts are not doing too good either so if one takes all this in account, this reboot looks doomed from day one.

Plot is stale. Rehan (Gaurav Arora) and Shaina (Kriti Kharbanda), a married couple, move to Romania after he gets a better offer there. However, when they move into their new house, Rehan begins to act distant with Shaina, and refuses to get intimate with her. Not understanding the change in her husband’s behaviour, she also begins to realise that they are not alone here. From seeing an eyeball in the sink to seeing someone under the bed, she tries to convince her husband about the intruder in their house, but to no avail. Slowly, she gets possessed by the spirit. To complicate matters, there is also Aditya (Emraan Hashmi), her junkie ex, who claims to know what’s happening to her. Emraan Hashmi makes a late entry, but again, has nothing new to do. The film reaches halfway point when Aditya reveals a dark Raaz about Rehan to Shaina. If you want to know this Raaz, sit through the film.

Film has dated plot and screenplay has all cliche twists. It has some life towards the middle of 2nd half but all fizzle out soon.

Performance wise, no one  is outstanding. Emraan is good but has very little to do. Gaurav Arora is better than his horrific debut and Kriti Kharbanda makes a forgettable debut as she can not scream or emote at all.

Film has uneven editing. Background music is cliche. Cinematography is decent, production design is good and costumes are apt. Music is melodious with couple of good songs.

Director Vkira? Bhatt again delivers half baked film which goes no where after initial idea which was dull itself. Despite great lovations and decent music score, this one looks like another flop.

Film released today and will open with decent numbers but should find difficult to grow over weekend unless reviews turn the tide.

Go for this if you have not seen earlier Vikram Bhatt films!
