Detailed Analysis:
Sanjeev Sharma made this film couple of years back but it was stuck due to censor issues. Finally it's out for audience.
Plot is complicated. Pappi (Manoj Bajpayee) and company is a blithe deal: “bijli churani hai”, they are told over roadside tea. The second is more esoteric, in the form of a lunatic, Bichchi (Annu Kapoor), of mythical reputation. In Bichchi’s mutterings, Pappi sees the promise of a hidden treasure in that contested haveli of the diwan (Anupam Kher).
Where gods co-exist snugly with “item numbers” organised for Purnima, day begins with a flower-seller setting shop for Kaali puja, a dacoity must take into account the neighbourhood mosque, mourners break into a dance, and havelis come with Mughal lineage, nothing is impossible. Aditi Sharma as Pappi’s resourceful love and the neighbourhood heartthrob Sona; Vijay Raaz as Jaggi, the lawyer with a waistcoat, a ponytail, and that undulating henchman; and Kay Kay Menon as daroga Tejpal keeping the order while nursing a secret love for Sona, are interesting characters.
Film has fresh screenplay. It has life in 1st half but in middle of 2nd half it becomes over dramatic and stretched. It becomes such a confused tale towards the end.
Performance wise Manoj Bajpayee and Aditi Sharma are best. Kay Kay Menon is decent and so is Vijay Raaz. Anupam Kher and Annu Kapoor are over the top.
Music is poor, very average cinematography and even worse background score. Editing is neat and Costumes are apt. Art design is authentic. Story is good but screenplay gets messed up.
Director Sanjeev Sharma has made a decent film but he loses the grip towards the end. Also over use of cuss words and forced attempt to make it trippy worked against the film.
Film will release today with limited awareness and it will find hard to score at box office. Film will face stiff competition from half a dozen Hollywood and Bollywood releases.
Go watch it if funny characters in Delhi style are your cup of tea!
