Vicky Kaushal’s BHOOT Is A Loss-Compensating Strategy

By Nikhil Bisoi - June 17, 2019 Karan Johar has recently announced the horror franchise ‘Bhoot’. Now it is referred to be a loss-compensating strategy, meant to minimize the financial setbacks suffered by Johar and his Dharma Productions by the thundering debacle of ‘Kalank’. According to the sources, the failure of ‘Kalank’ was horrific. The brainstorming tank at Dharma Production suggested the horror franchise entitled ‘Bhoot’. To be made under a very tight budget this series of films is expected to recover investments within the first three days of release and then make a small profit. Unlike other stars, Dharma chose Vicky Kaushal as the main lead, who isn’t as expensive as some of the stars of Bollywood are. Getting the ‘Bhoot’ title from Ram Gopal Varma was even more of a masterstroke for Karan Johar. RGV handing over the title to Karan without a fuss was also very surprising as Karan has openly warred with him in the past on Twitter. ‘Bhoot — Part One: The Haunted Ship’ marks director Shashank Khaitan’s debut as a producer. It’s also Vicky Kaushal’s second outing with the banner. The film— shot at some lesser-explored locations in Gujarat — is also being backed by Karan’s mother Hiroo Johar and Apoorva Mehta (CEO, Dharma Productions). The makers plan to release the film on November 15, 2019.
