Detailed Analysis:
'Rang De Basanti' opened a whole new genre of new breed of film makers and that is why even after a decade or so, that film attracts every director, Here comes another version of RDB! Film starts at India Gate, New Delhi where a young guy Dev (Mohit Maarwah) self immolates himself. Story goes in flashback. Four friends used to have fun day and night until one day Devi (Kiara Advani) was touched inappropriately by a small time shopkeeper. Four friends decide to teach Nunu (shopkeeper) a lesson by kidnapping him but that fateful night takes an ugly turn when they bump into a corrupt powerful DCP Chautala of Haryana Police. How corrupt system traps youngsters in web of crime, rave parties, murder and extortion form the rest of the story. Will these friends come out of situation or they will lose everything? Watch the film for answers.
Editing is big mess, film is at least 15 minutes too long and writing is pointless. Script does not move even a bit after Jimmy Shergill makes an entry. Same situation plays repeatedly again and again. Dialogues are authentic and locations look real. Cinematography is strictly average but music is the high point of the film. Title track, 'Ghoome Ghoome Banjaare' and 'Chora Chori Party mein' are simply superb. But yes its director Kbair Sadanand who tries to deliver an honest film with heart. But he falls of prey of poor writing and hangover of 'Rang De Basanti'. A minister's son harassed by policeman in Dlehi/Haryana - is it possible, Jimmy's character is super powers and he is too cunning but in climax he walks into hospital in middle of furious media to commit harakiri - and above all irritating subtitles and absence of Askhay Kumar and Salman Khan starrer title track disappoint big time. Film will release today and should get niche release across 700 screens. Film will get moderate competition from 5-6 small Bollywood and Hollywood releases. But the real threat will be from Akshay Kumar starrer 'Holiday' as that film is set to dominate in 2nd week too. Film should open with low initials due to no big star cast. Film is made on small budget and sold for almost 8 cr all India distributor price and that is why even small box office numbers in excess of 15 cr nett needed to take it to at least break even zone. Film will heavily depend on word of mouth and weekend jumps.
