TEVAR Is Regressive Mindnumbing Entertainer
Pluses:
Arjun Kapoor excels in intense dramatic scenes, Manoj Bajpayee puts an entertaining act, excellent cinematography
Minuses:
cliche writing, direction lacks punch, sleep inducing songs, pathetic performances by supporting cast
Critic Rating: 2/5
Business Rating: 2.5/5
Verdict:
Watch it for routine action, drama and romance
Detailed Analysis:
'Tevar' is latest offering from Eros after recent debacles in form of 'Happy Ending', 'Action Jackson' and 'Lekar Hum Deewana Dil'. Film is co produced by Boney Kapoor and has son Arjun in lead.
Film has no plot whatsoever (obviously as this is remake of super hit south film 'Okkadu'). Pintoo (Arjun Kapoor) is a young Kabbadi player who goes to take part in a life changing match, which decides his sports future. There, in a twist of fate, he saves Radhika (Sonakshi Sinha) from Gajendar Singh (Manoj Bajpayee), a dangerous faction leader, who is in love with Radhika and wants to marry her against her wishes and who happens to be the brother of the politician Mahendra Singh (played by Rajesh Sharma). Pintoo tries to comfort her because Gajendar Singh killed both brothers of Radhika. Pintoo brings Radhika to his house and decides to send her elsewhere to save her from Gajendar Singh. This is complicated by the fact that Radhika falls in love with Pintoo and that Pintoo's dad Satyapal (Raj Babbar) is the top Cop in charge of finding Radhika, as per the order of corrupt home minister of the state. The home minister is into helping Gajendar Singh. Pintoo conceals Radhika, this forms an integral part of the story. Whether Pintoo is able to achieve his Kabbadi target and whether, Radhika & Pintoo unite is the crux of the story. Performance wise Arjun Kapoor stands tall with some real good action sequences and intense expressions. But he falls flat when he tries to imitate charisma of Salman Khan. Sonakshi Sinha does not care for critics or audience any more as she continues to drag herself in such regressive roles. Raj Babbar looks least interested and so does Rajesh Sharma. Manoj Bajpayee is the best thing about the film as he delivers an entertaining act. He has some best lines too which will get claps in single screens. Film has some real boring songs from Sajid - Wajid and all songs work as welcome loo break in somewhat tepid affair. Editing is uneven and cinematography is too good. Background score screams and makes things worse for audience. Story was so cliche that even the greatest screenplay writer could had failed. Dialogues are good. Art department and costume department are tacky as well.
Debutant Director Amit Ravindranath Sharma delivers an outdated film despite showing promise with some exemplary work in advertising industry. But he chooses a regressive subject and south Indian remake which makes it really harder for him to deliver something praiseworthy. Film released today and will get 3000 screens which will be too much for such film. Film has good chances at box office as there is no major competition but with such content only masses can take it to safe zone.
Go for this one if you can watch any kind of action drama film from 80's, especially the average ones!
