ACTION JACKSON Is A Test Of Patience
Pluses:
Ajay Devgn is good in action sequences and intense shots, couple of good songs
Minuses:
poor writing, pathetic performances by all three leading ladies - Sonakshi repeats herself, Manasvi displays all except acting skills, Yami Gautam had nothing to do except looking misfit; bad acts from supporting cast, pathetic direction
Critic Rating: 1.5/5
Business Rating: 2/5
Verdict:
Watch it for series of unintentional laughs
Detailed Analysis:
'Action Jackson' is latest offering from Eros after recent debacles in form of 'Happy Ending' and 'Lekar Hum Deewana Dil'. Prabhu Dheva manages deliver hit every time with different sets of actors.
Film has no plot whatsoever (obviously as this is not remake of some super hit south film). There is Vishy (Ajay Devgn) in Mumbai who falls in love with Khushi (Sonakshi Sinha). Khushi is either mentally unstable or so idiotic that she wants to see Vishy in minimal clothing (can you imagine???) as that brings her good luck and that good luck can fix her marriage with a guy settled in USA. Then there is typical double role confusion as 2nd Ajay Devgn who is dreaded killer AJ. Now one might wonder what is the difference between both Devgns? Vishy is small time crook in Mumbai and AJ is gangster and that is very tough to figure out for every one except for writers and Prabhu Dheva. There is maniac (actually sex addict!!) girl Marina (Manasvi Mamgai) whose brother is most powerful gangster and AJ works for him. AJ saves Marina and she falls in LUST with AJ but AJ loves a sweet girl (Yami Gautam). Now one can imagine the kind of situations for action sequences which are the purple patch in this lackluster tiring saga. On top of that some real hit songs which are completely misused by director with forceful insertion (pun intended!). Performance wise Ajay Devgn stands tall with some real breathtaking stunts and intense expressions. But he falls flat in dance moves and Prabhu Dheva completely fails as director and choreographer. Why the hell he tried all this with Ajay Devgn! Yami Gautam has nothing do in the film and she is completely misfit. Manasvi makes poor debut as she has nothing to show except skin and over the top expressions. Sonakshi Sinha does well but she can not offer nothing new in this bracket and that too in such a badly written role. Then there are some really bad supporting cast members including Kunaal Roy Kapur as friend of Vishy. Shahid Kapoor gets clap in brief dance sequence in song 'Punjabi Mast'. Film has some real melodious chartbuster songs and all songs work as welcome break in somewhat tepid affair. 'Gangster Baby' and 'Keeda' get claps. Editing is uneven and cinematography is decent. Background score screams and makes things worse for audience. Story was so cliche that even the greatest screenplay writer could had failed. Dialogues are very poor. Art department and costume department are tacky as well.
Director Prabhu Dheva delivers his worst film and he falls victim of his own craft. He tries to save a lazy story with great actions and songs but it can not work every time. His formula fails and fails big time. Film will release tomorrow and will get 3000 screens which will be apt for such film. Film has good chances at box office as there is no major competition but with such content only masses can take it to safe zone.
Go for this one if you can watch any kind of action film from 80's, especially the bad ones!
