Sunday, 21st December 01:00 PM IST ‘Old is gold’ is an adage the Hindi film industry swears by. No wonder filmwallahs keep revisiting old classics to remake and re-release. So when cult classic 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (DDLJ) featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead, re-releases to celebrate the film’s 1000 weeks, the cash registers are bound to start ringing. There was hysteria at a single screen in Kolkata last week, when Navina Cinema in Tollygunge decided to run DDLJ for a week. The cinema has a capacity of 1,100 and it notched up impressive collections. Navin Choukhani, Director, Navina Cinema says, “SRK has a huge fan following in Kolkata and obviously when one of his biggest films re-released at our cinema, a lot of his fans who are teenagers came in to watch it since they were not even born in 1995! The film has made a killing of Rs 1.18 lakh in just seven shows. This is way more than the business of films like 'The Shaukeens', 'Happy Ending', 'Ungli' and 'Action Jackson' put together running the same week in my cinema hall!” |
