BOMBAY VELVET’s Certification Creates A Problem For CBFC Chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani

Tuesday, 12th May 2015, 5:02 PM IST Anurag Kashyap's ‘Bombay Velvet’ was given a U/A certificate last Friday. The Examining Committee had said that the film should get an ‘A’ certificate, but the makers opted to go to Revising Committee. In a letter, it has been revealed that the RC had the same members (among a few others) who were on the EC, which is a complete breach of rules. Senior Board member, Nandini Sardesai has filed a complaint against Pahlaj Nihalani and his autocratic ways with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry. Nandini said, "It is unprecedented. Never in the history of CBFC has the RC had the same members as the EC. Nihalani claims he's following the book, but he's been flouting rules left, right and centre." "A day before the screening, he told me he isn't aware when it's happening, then presides over it. I've taken the matter up with the Ministry. There has to be a solution to this autocratic nightmare," she added.
