Top 16 Worldwide Opening Weekends In 2015, BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN On Top , DILWALE 2nd
2014 proved to be a bad year at box office for Bollywood and that is why there was great hope from 2015. But even this year started on sluggish note during 1st quarter but then in last two months 'Piku' and 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' had turned the tide. Both films not only did well in India but also did good business in overseas market.
'Dil Dhadakane Do' topped the chart over weekend in terms of worldwide gross. Film collected 21 cr plus overseas and approx 46 cr gross in India over the weekend. 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' had roaring business worldwide with 66.50 cr gross over weekend. But then came 'ABCD 2' with highest biz and film did big 73 cr worldwide gross over weekend despite hit by heavy rains and Ramzaan.
'Piku' surprised all with roaring biz in India and film was a surprise in overseas market too. Film was first in 2015 to cross 2 million $ mark over weekend with 2.10 million $ total with 44 cr worldwide gross over weekend. Both Akshay Kumar starrers 'Baby' and 'Gabbar Is Back' 47 cr and 62 cr worldwide gross over weekend. Then came the biggest release of the year, Salma Khan starrer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' which opened big worldwide with 135 cr gross in India and 50 cr plus in overseas over the weekend. This was among all time top 3 openings ever behind 'Dhoom 3' and 'Happy New Year'. 'Brothers' collected 15.77 cr ($2.41 million) in overseas and 68 cr gross in India which means 2nd highest worldwide weekend of 82 cr.
'Phantom' collected 1 million $ in overseas and 33 cr nett in domestic market with worldwide gross of 50 cr worldwide which was 7th best in 2015. 'Welcome Back' grossed 69 cr in India and 21 cr in overseas with worldwide gross of 90 cr which was 2nd best in 2015. 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon', debut vehicle of Kapil Sharma surprised everyone with 45 cr worldwide gross ( 37 cr India & 8 cr overseas) which was 10th best of the year. Akshay Kumar starrer 'Singh Is Bliing' collected 87 cr worldwide gross over weekend which was 3rd best of the year.
Big release Salman Khan starrer 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' collected huge 142 cr worldwide in 3 day weekend which was 2nd best in 2015 after BB. Ranbir - Deepika starrer 'Tamasha' collected 50.50 cr gross in India over weekend and 23 cr in overseas with worldwide gross of 73.50 cr. 'Dilwale' collected 65 cr nett in India and 8.5 million $ overseas in opening weekend with worldwide gross of 145 cr which was 2nd best. 'Bajirao Mastani' collected 45 cr in India and 4.5 million $ overseas with 89 cr worldwide weekend gross which was 5th best in 2015.
