Lifetime Business & Economics Of JAI HO
''Jai Ho'' was released in January 2014 among huge expectations which is the case with every Salman Khan starrer. But after a gap of 4-5 years, this was the first Salman Khan starrer which failed to meet expectations in terms of box office numbers especially after SRK broke 225 cr nett barrier with ''Chennai Express'' and Aamir Khan starrer ''Dhoom 3'' collected humongous 270 cr nett plus at domestic box office only.
Salman Khan starrer ''Jai Ho'' suffered due to not so great release time, below average content and few environmental factors. Film never started big and failed to grow after lukewarm start. Film still managed to cross 100 cr nett barrier but that is minimum what you expect from a big Khan release.
Film grossed 149 cr at domestic box office and 114 cr nett with the distributor share of 56 cr. Film earned 35 cr in overseas market with the share of 17-18 cr. Film was huge loss making proposition for Eros who bought it for 111 cr and made losses in tune of 37 cr, almost 33% loss on investment.
But on contrary Khan brothers went laughing to the bank. Salman Khan and Sohail Khan invested 70 cr in the film and made revenues in excess of 170 cr through theatrical rights (111 cr), home video (2 cr), Satellite rights (55 cr) and music rights (6 cr). In total they made profit of around 104 cr just riding on star power of Salman Khan.
This film ended the dream run of Salman Khan at box office. After a long time, he failed to deliver hit for distributors. Seems like the law of average caught him big time!
