Top 17 Opening Weekends In 2015, BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN On Top And BROTHERS 2nd
2014 proved to be a bad year at box office for Bollywood and that is why there was great hope from 2015. But even this year has started on sluggish note and not a single film has got clean hit status yet.
'Roy' scored at box office on its opening day as film collected 10 cr nett plus though it dropped badly later with rather average weekend of 28.68 cr nett. 'Baby' opened well and had very good weekend of 36 cr nett riding on good reviews.
'Badlapur' had rather good opening day at 7 cr nett and went on to collect 23.50 cr nett over weekend despite adversely affected by cricket match on Sunday. This was good considering adult content. 'Ek Paheli Leela' had good opening day but film failed miserably due to bad content over weekend with below par number of 15.85 cr nett. 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy' had similar fate with 14 cr nett weekend. Emraan Hashmi continued to deliver disasters with 13.99 cr nett weekend. Akshay Kumar again delivered rather good weekend business of 39.41 cr nett with his 2nd release of the year 'Gabbar Is Back'. Amitabh and Deepika starrer 'Piku' had mind blowing growth over weekend and collected 25.22 cr after only 5.32 cr Friday.
But then came the biggest disappointment as 'Bombay Velvet' never took off at box office with poor numbers of 16.10 cr nett over weekend. Kangana Ranaut - Anand L Rai pair again struck gold at box office and scored 2nd best weekend of 2015 with 38.15 cr nett over weekend. 'Dil Dhadakane Do' collected 37.05 cr nett over weekend which was good but not great considering ensemble cast and hype. Varun Dhawan starrer 'ABCD 2' scored huge 46.35 cr nett over weekend which is by far the best number for 2015 in first 6 months.
And then released first big festive film of 2015, Salman Khan starrer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and it scored 102.60 cr nett weekend number which was by far highets in 2015 and only 3rd best ever. As expected Salman Khan continues to rule box office! Ajay Devgn starrer 'Drishyam' collected 30.03 cr nett over opening weekend which was 7th best in 2015. Akshay Kumar and Siddharth Malhotra starrer 'Brothers' notched up 52.08 cr nett over weekend, 2nd best of the year and that was good but not great considering Independence Day.
