Sunday, 17th August 03:00 PM IST The Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted Yash Raj Films’ latest release Mardaani an ‘A’ certificate, a first for Yash Raj, and that too after heated arguments between producer Aditya Chopra and members of the censor board. Sources say Aditya Chopra fought tooth and nail for a ‘U/A’ certificate which the panel members refused to grant him.Says a source, "The censor board members told Mr. Chopra to go to the Revising Committee if he had a problem with the ‘Adults Only’ certificate. But under no circumstance were they willing to grant the film a ‘U/A’ certificate." Apparently the censor board objected very strongly to a politician character’s leery declaration, “Mera shauq (hobby) rape hai.” Says a source, "Every member of the censor board was shocked, appalled and disgusted by the dialogue. But Mr. Chopra held his ground arguing that this was the reprehensible side of human trafficking that needed to be shown with brutal force. He argued for 15 minutes to retain that dialogue. But eventually he had to give in." More tricky was Adi Chopra’s face-off with the censor board over a sequence showing a young girl with blood oozing down her thighs. Says the source, “Mr. Chopra argued that this was how it was when young tender women were ravaged. Finally three women panelists from the censor board had to explicitly tell Mr. Chopra that what he has shown was biologically inaccurate, and the scene had to go.” Another sequence that was censored showed young girls being hosed down and stripped by the flow of the water.“The censor board members thought there was too much nudity in that sequence. They asked for the hosing to be toned down,” says the source, adding that Mardaani is Yash Raj’s rawest most brutal film to date. |
