Tuesday, 19th August, 2014, 03:00 PM IST In 1990, when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait with the Iraqi army, there were almost 1,70,000 Indian residing in Kuwait who were homeless and money-less all of a sudden. At the time, India was at its political worst as more than 40 per cent of its oil supply came from a place that was at war.
In such a scenario, an Indian businessman named Ranjit Katyal, who was residing in Kuwait at the time of war, smelled trouble for himself and his family. It was this man, who became the saviour for the 1,70,000 Indians and got them safely out of Kuwait.
Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Airlift’ is a story of these Indians and their saviour Ranjit (played by Akshay) who survived the traumatic Iraqi invasion and managed to travel thousands of miles to escape from the war zone across the border of Amman, Jordan. ‘Airlift’ is an uplifting and entertaining edge-of-the-seat thriller and is the story of the biggest ever human evacuation in the history of mankind. ‘Airlift’will be directed by Raja Krishna Menon, and the shooting starts in April 2015. Bhushan Kumar, producer, said, “It's my conviction that the story will be equally appreciated once on celluloid as much as I loved it during narration. The character that Akshay plays is filled with heroism and I am sure he will add to the perfection with this central character role that he essays.” |
