Monday, 6th Oct 2014, 3:02 PM IST Before going to serve his term in jail, Sanjay Dutt completed the shooting of Rensil D'Silva’s ‘Ungli’. And Rensil recently shared his experience of working with the actor before he went in jail. The shooting of ‘Ungli’ was going on when Sanjay Dutt was ordered imprisonment in May 2013. The director of the film Rensil had to change locations and dialogues for Sanjay. Rensil said, "Once, I changed the venue of the shoot from Byculla to Carter Road. The scene was supposed to be shot on a ferry. The media was chasing him everywhere; they had positioned themselves outside his apartment complex. I felt Carter Road would be easier for him as it is closer to his Pali Hill residence." He even reduced the dialogues of the actor for the particular scene. Talking about it he said, "That's the least I could do as a director. I felt that I shouldn't give him too many lines to remember during that traumatic period. You can't push a man beyond a point. It could get physically and mentally daunting for him." One day, Sanjay didn’t land up on the sets of the film, but later it was cleared by him that he was busy with his legal team. Rensil said,"Thankfully, his scenes that day were with junior artistes. I sent them back as I had no other option. Later, Sanju informed us that he was busy with his legal team." All these things were totally ignored. "How can it be easy when someone is going to jail and you have to ask him to react to different situations in your story in front of the camera?," said Rensil. The dates of other star cast became a problem, but even they made adjustment for Sanjay. The director said, "The mood was very sober on the sets when Sanju was around. Also, we couldn't shoot on exactly the same dates he had allotted us originally. As a consequence, I lost the dates of other actors because they had other commitments alongside. They made several adjustments for him.” Talking about the last shot Sanjay gave for the film, Rensil said, "He had a very dramatic scene with Emraan, at the end of it he got very emotional.” He further revealed that even Karan Johar had come to meet him on the last day of the shoot. "We hugged him but Sanju didn't say anything. He went aside to do a brief photo-shoot and then didn't return, he just drove off. Imagine what he must have undergone that day! And here, I was asking more from a man who was going through so much," Rensil said. |
