Pluses: most natural screenplay with out a single hiccup, simple effective dialogues, impeccable honest performances, perfect direction, Minuses:
its slow in pace at times
Critic Rating: 5/5
Business Rating: 1/5
Verdict:
Watch it for slice of life yet social comic elements
Detailed Analysis:
Last year 'The Lunchbox' created stir among festivals followed by huge critical acclaim and box office success. This year it seems that 'Court' will be the film which will achieve accolades all over.
Performance wise my favorite is Geetanjali Kulkarni, she portrays life of a lawyer with such aplomb and in most natural way. Vivek Gomber displays desperation and disappointment of a well eduacted professional lawyer and Vira Sathidhar is also impressive as social crusader. Pradeep Joshi deserves special mention for outstanding performance as judge. Film has interesting premise but screenplay is real hero, it never tries to be pretentious art cinema types and never tries to be too hilarious. Film has pitch perfect dialogues. Film has interesting background score. Art department is authentic and editing is top notch.
Director Chaitanya Tamhane succeeds in bringing out the pain, angst and contradictions in day to day life and real situation of our social justice system. He makes a dream debut with almost perfect film. Film released today and should release across 300 screens. Film had no chances at box office as its a film with very niche appeal. Film will depend on exceptional word of mouth to survive as it has no great buzz or marketing awareness.
Go for this rare gem, strongly recommended!
