Thursday, 25th Sept 2014, 4:07 PM IST On ‘Koffee With Karan’, Sonam Kapoor had stated that she want to do social service, and it looks like the actress has started doing social service already. She has spoken up for the women make-up artists. She feels that it is unjust that women are not allowed to get the makeup artist card. In an interview Sonam said, "Did you know women aren't allowed to get makeup cards? The reason? Men think they will be deprived of work if women are allowed memberships. So if women are allowed to be make up artistes, about 3,000 men will end up losing their jobs. In this day and age,we are talking about gender bias! It is like allowing a woman to be a nurse and not a doctor. The Makeup Artists Association has also started doing gunda gardi. They drag women out of the rooms, and tell them 'it is our job'. It is like a male can be a journalist and a female can't because it is his territory.I mean, is there even an argument? This is nonsense! I don't even know how to argue on this. It is illogical." But, Rajesh Patil, the president of the Cine Costume And Makeup Artist Association (CCMAA), rubbished the allegations Sonam has put on the association. He said, "None of our members have ever misbehaved or shoved any artist. We respect women. Sonam is wrong. Yes, as per rules of the association, we do not give makeup artist memberships to women. But, we do not give hair-dresser membership to men and that is given only to women. Our existing members do not get enough work because of the non-member make up artists who function in the industry. Many a times, celebrities call artists from foreign countries, and this is affecting the business of our members. Apart from that, there are also artists in the city who do not have a CCMAA membership, but they continue to operate.” |
