Thursday, 16th Oct2014, 1:29 PM IST Rani Mukerji, who is currently riding high with the success of ‘Mardaani’, will be reportedly playing the role of Dawood’s sister, Haseena Parkar, in Haseena’s biopic. It is said that Apoorva Lakhia, who had expressed his wish to make a film on Haseena’s life, has finally locked the screenplay of the movie. Haseena became famous in 1991 after her husband, Ismail Parkar, was shot by the members of the Arun Gawli gang. And then Dawood’s team shot down his murderer in the infamous J.J. Hospital shootout. Later, Haseena started staying into the South Mumbai area, Nagpada and was said to be the Godmother of the area. She died in a Dongri hospital this year on 4th July. Apparently, the movie will start rolling in November and talks with the actress Rani Mukerji is going on. A source close said, "Till late last year, Apoorva was in touch with Haseena and her family. He wants to ensure that every detail is right. He himself spent a lot of time with Haseena to understand the complexities of her life." Talking about why Lakhia wants to rope in Rani to play the lead role, the source said, "Apoorva believes that Rani will do complete justice to the role. She can pull off the part with confidence and aplomb, which is why he zeroed down on her." Rani has not yet done any biopic and it is said that she is quite interested in doing the film. Apparently, she is also gaining weight for the film to look like Haseena. Apoorva will be having workshops before he starts the film, so that Rani can learn Haseena’s mannerisms.
