Saturday, 26th July 2014, 04:10 PM IST The Bharatiya Janta Party's Mumbai branch has launched a new film union that will be headed by Shaina N C. Shaina is well connected to the film fraternity and knows many a filmmaker.
The formation of this union has met with mixed reactions from the B-town. While Kulmeet Makkar, CEO, Film &TV Producers Guild feels this step was taken to appease the vote bank, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur feels positive about the same. He argued saying, “Why shouldn't we have a union backed by the strongest political party in the country which registered a swashbuckling win in the Lok Sabha polls?”
Other filmmakers like, Vipul Shah, who said that he will form an opinion after reading the union's agenda document and the usually frank Mahesh Bhatt, seemingly don’t want to pre-judge the party’s decision. However,activist-producer Ashoke Pandit feels this step wasn’t necessary. He said,“Don't we have enough associations for the film fraternity already? BJP MPs Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini and Paresh Rawal should make a difference in the Parliament. The party at the centre should concentrate more on problems pertaining to the common man.” |
